Child Care

Melita has many licensed and non-licensed child care options available. At the present time all of these facilities are home based. To find out more about child care services it is best to contact the Melita Town Office or the Economic Development Officer for an overview of what may be available.  Another option that is common is to contact friends or family members who may know of an opening at one of these locations.

At the present time the Southwest Horizon School Division is working in conjunction with Manitoba Family Services & Housing to establish Early Learning Centers within the local schools.  In our area Waskada, Pierson and Melita are all in the preliminary stages of securing these services.  Once the plans are signed off by all parties an application for funding will be processed through Public Schools Finance Board.

Once contractors are hired, any necessary renovations will be made to each of the facilities to accommodate an Early Learning Center.

The Melita Center will be licensed to accommodate: 16 preschool and 4 infants.

A mandated of the province is that each Early Learning Center has a functioning board of directors.  These Early Learning Centers will be facilitated by this board of directors and run as their own identity.  The Government of Manitoba will be assisting these boards in development and maintenance of the overall functioning of these centers.
