Visiting | Melita & Area Tourism

Melita and Area Tourism Committee began meeting in 2001 with the goal of promoting tourism in our area. One of our first projects was to develop a brochure for Melita & Area as well as a bird watching map which has impressed bird watchers worldwide. We re-visited the Gainsborough Creek dam and lake project and inspired the Melita and Area Economic Development Corporation to pursue the development of the Sourisford Prehistoric Linear Mounds. Throughout all of these projects the topic of a statue continued to surface both from the community and our committee. In 2007 our committee announced the “Banana Belt of the Southwest” project – a statue of a banana for our town. The statue will be 30 feet high, tasteful and certainly unique. Melita is not only the “Grasslands Birds Capital of Manitoba”, it is also a town with "A-peel".
Location of the Statue:
Corner of Front Street and Highway #83
