Municipal Waste Management donates proceeds from BBQ in Melita
Shown on photo (L-R): Mayor William Holden; Mr. Shawn Samels, Sales Manager for Municipal Waste Management; and Councillor Albert Morris
On Thursday, August 18, 2016, Mr. Shawn Samels, Sales Manager for Municipal Waste Management (MWM), donated the amount of $768.00 to go toward the Town of Melita’s Central Park Playground Project. The donation was raised from the BBQ in Melita lunch organized by MWM last June 23, 2016. Councillor Albert Morris received the donation on behalf of the Town of Melita.
The Central Park Playground Project is scheduled to commence in 2017. The project aims to improve the existing play space by adding play structures to the area. The MWM donation is a good starting point for the project. The Town of Melita would like to thank MWM for this generous contribution and to all the community members who supported the barbeque.
MWM has been in business for more than 20 years providing comprehensive waste and recyclables management services to numerous communities in Southern Manitoba. MWM started servicing the Town of Melita last December 2015.
Commemorative street name for Dr. Aquilino Dizon, Jr.
Shown on the photo are: Mayor Bill Holden, Councillor Jocelyn Skelton, Dr. Aquilino Dizon, Jr., Richard Bugg, and Garry VanSteelandt
Earlier today, a commemorative street sign was erected in honour of Dr. Aquilino Dizon, Jr. for all the years of service as the Town of Melita’s family physician since 1973. Summit Street from the Main Street corner to Townsend’s corner will also be known as Dr. Dizon Drive. This location was chosen for the commemorative naming because the Melita and Area Hospital is along this street. Residents can continue using Summit Street on their addresses.
Ground breaking of new pole shed structure
Local council members joined local community leader to mark the ground breaking of Melita & Area Pole Shed –the newest public space addition in the Town of Melita.
Mayor Bill Holden talks about the impact this development will have on the community. “The construction of a new public space on a prime location, next to our major tourist attraction, was an opportunity to improve the functionality of the area. It makes a positive impression and adds to the overall attractiveness of the place. We hope the community will take advantage of this new structure and utilize it during townwide festivals, as well as public and private events.” Read more
